Our third day on the road began in the briskness of the beautiful Colorado Rockies. Intense grades made the passage over the mountains a challenge (especially with a trailer) but the views were spectacular. Of course, Colorado after the rockies marked the beginning of thousands of miles of flat plains, introducing us to the midwest.

We made it all the way to Lexington, NE where we sought shelter for the night from a SWARM OF LOCUSTS (which--unfortunately--we did not capture on film). However, for the record, we stopped for dinner at Kirk's (documented below) and when we exited the restaurant (about 45 minutes later), the air had grown thick with a horrid manure-like smell and the ground was covered and the air was full of thousands upon thousands of locusts. mmm...biblical.
